NEW YORK, BRONX (ORDO News) — In a collaborative effort between researchers from Egypt and Germany, led by Dr. Mohammed Ismail Khaled of the University of Julia Maximilian Würzburg, a remarkable discovery has been made within the Sahure pyramid in Abusir, Egypt.
The Sahure pyramid, constructed around 2400 BC, served as the final resting place for the second king of the Fifth Dynasty of Egypt.
In an initiative launched in 2019 with support from the American Research Center in Egypt’s Antiquities Fund, a team of experts embarked on a mission to strengthen the pyramid’s structure to safeguard it from the risk of collapse.
During this conservation work, the team unearthed hidden chambers that had remained concealed from human eyes for centuries, thus confirming their existence. British Egyptologist John Perring had originally suggested the presence of hidden passages within the Sahure pyramid in 1836.
Subsequent researchers, including Ludwig Borhardt in 1907, had cast doubt on these claims. However, the recent exploration conducted by Dr. Khaled’s team substantiated Perring’s initial observations, unveiling long-held secrets of this ancient marvel.
Upon entering the pyramid, the researchers cleared a concealed corridor leading to eight storage compartments. While the passage of time had taken its toll, the remnants of the original structures offered valuable insights into the architecture and purpose of this remarkable pyramid.
It is worth noting that the success of this expedition was made possible through the utilization of modern technology. Collaborating with the 3D Geoscan team, the researchers employed the GeoSLAM ZEB Horizon scanner.
This advanced technology allowed them to meticulously explore the pyramid’s interior spaces, facilitating the creation of detailed maps and precise documentation of their historical findings.
This discovery sheds new light on the rich history and mysteries concealed within one of Egypt’s ancient wonders, offering an exciting glimpse into the past for archaeologists and history enthusiasts alike.
