NEW YORK, BRONX (ORDO News) — Lovers of mountain hikes and natural beauty in Zhejiang Province, China, can now enjoy the views without having to trek up. Tourists can now take advantage of giant escalators that will allow them to reach the top of the mountains with minimal effort.
Tour operators in Zhejiang province have solved the problem of accessibility to the mountains by installing escalators directly in mountainous areas. These massive structures, hundreds of meters long, allow tourists to travel up and down in comfort and without unnecessary physical effort. Where once you had to negotiate treacherous trails and skirt around mountains, you can now simply take an escalator and reach the top in just a few minutes.
One example of such an innovative solution is Tanyu Mountain in Chun’an County, Zhejiang Province. This mountain, which has a height of only 350 meters, previously remained inaccessible to the elderly and small children due to the difficult terrain and the need for a detour. However, thanks to the new escalator, now anyone can easily and quickly get to its top.
One of the workers involved in installing the escalator said: “The original purpose for which we built this elevator was to solve the problem of traffic when going up the mountain. At first we considered the possibility of building a cable car. However, considering the limited transportation capacity of the cable car and high risks, the escalator is relatively safe and has high transportation capacity, which can meet the needs of the scenic area.”
Despite the obvious advantages, not everyone welcomes the advent of mountain escalators. Outdoor enthusiasts and hikers feel they take the fun out of mountain adventures by depriving them of physical exertion. One critic even wrote on social media: “So what is the point of climbing a mountain? I think the joy has passed.”
However, the concept of “painless mountaineering” has found its fans. One satisfied hiker remarked, “I didn’t walk a single step to climb most of the mountain, and I didn’t miss a single scenic spot.”
Young parents also appreciated the innovation. The young mother said: “It’s amazing for the elderly and children. You don’t have to climb yourself. Just get on the escalator. In a word, my child is happy and I am happy.”
Videos of the 350-meter escalator system on Mount Tanyu are gaining popularity online, but it is not the only such structure in Zhejiang province. The Shenxianjiu tourist area in Taizhou has a 104-meter-long escalator known as the “Southern Sky Staircase” installed about three years ago.
