NEW YORK, BRONX (ORDO News) — Brain implants that can turn off fear and allow military personnel to control equipment only with the power of their thoughts could become an everyday reality by 2030, researchers say. The Daily Star reports.
Based on previously unavailable scientific discoveries, this concept of brain implants is generating enormous interest in military circles. Former US Army physician Dr. Jeffrey Ling was one of the pioneers of this revolutionary technology . Inspired by what he saw on the battlefield, he created a prosthetics program that led to the development of brain-controlled prosthetics.
However, as it turned out, the capabilities of this technology are not limited to just prosthetics. Now Pentagon researchers are working on brain implants that will allow soldiers to communicate with drones on the battlefield, control equipment and even suppress fear of dangerous situations.
Dr. Ling emphasized that this technology opens up endless possibilities for us.
“At first we thought about robotic limbs, but now we see that you can even control airplanes with your mind. This demonstrates that science can make the most fantastic ideas come true,” he said.
Initially, DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency) research was aimed at developing an implant that could restore memory in military personnel suffering from traumatic brain injury. They later began working with scientists at the University of Southern California to refine the technology.
Research has shown that brain implants can improve soldiers’ skills and change their emotional state. Army Combat Capabilities Command projects that by 2030, specialized operators, pilots, researchers and more could use this technology to improve their performance.
However, despite all the potential benefits, there are serious ethical and medical questions. The brain, as the most complex organ in the human body, still hides many secrets. Experts warn of the need to approach this technology with caution and stress that the long-term consequences must be fully understood.
