(ORDO NEWS) — Atmospheric radiation is close to a 5-year maximum. This graph shows 15% growth since the launch of the monitoring program in 2015.
What is happening there?
The answer is “Solar minimum”. During the minimum of the 11-year solar cycle, the Sun’s magnetic field weakens, allowing additional cosmic rays from deep space to penetrate the solar system.
These cosmic rays enter the Earth‘s atmosphere, creating an intensifying wave of secondary cosmic rays.
The graph above shows that the solar minimum has already begun. NASA and NOAA recently announced a new (but still weak) solar cycle. Eventually, the 25th solar cycle will bend the curve downward again.
The only question is when?
Despite the announcement of its beginning, it never really started.
