NEW YORK, BRONX (ORDO News) — Owners of the new iPhone 15, who also own BMW cars, encountered an unexpected and unpleasant problem when charging their smartphones on the wireless charging pad of their car.
Last week, reports began surfacing that after connecting an iPhone 15 to BMW’s wireless charging pad, the device’s NFC chip stopped functioning. These complaints appeared on the MacRumors and X forums, as well as on social networks.
The incidents described by users were that after charging the iPhone 15 using the car charging pad, the device would go into data recovery mode with a white screen, and the NFC chip, which is responsible for important functions such as Apple Pay and digital car keys, stopped working after reboot.
This issue is causing major inconvenience for iPhone 15 owners as many of them rely on the NFC chip to make payments and control their cars. Users are receiving a “Failed to set up Apple Pay” error message in the Wallet app, and there doesn’t seem to be a reliable way to fix the problem at the moment.
Some users even claim that they contacted Apple and the company replaced their iPhone after confirming that the NFC chip was faulty. However, when they find themselves as owners of new devices, they face the same problem.
At the moment, complaints mainly concern the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max models. However, it is possible that this issue may spread to other versions of the iPhone 15, including the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus. Therefore, owners of any iPhone 15 models should be careful and cautious when using BMW wireless charging pads until a reliable solution to this problem is found.
It is currently unclear what exactly is causing this issue, how many users are affected, and which BMW models are affected by this incompatibility.
