(ORDO NEWS) — The pareidolic effect is the human ability to see familiar images in everyday objects. A recently discovered crater on Mars is a typical case of pareidolia.
One cannot but agree, the crater really looks like a bear’s face. Over the years, we have seen several unusual craters on Mars, such as the famous smiley face, an elephant, or a bird.
But what could be the reason for the appearance of this structure in the middle of the crater, which has the shape of a bear’s snout?
The cracks seen in the photographs may have formed as a result of sedimentation over the impact crater.
As explained at the University of Arizona, it is possible that the structure is a volcanic or mud vent, and the deposit could be lava or debris flows.
Be that as it may, this is just one of the many curious features that we have observed over the years on Mars.
