NEW YORK, BRONX (ORDO News) — Shopping centers, eternal places of bustle and movement, where crowds of shoppers and huge staff create the perfect hideout for those who want to remain unnoticed. Security guards in such places have the difficult task of maintaining order and security.
However, the story that happened in one of the shopping centers in Shanghai turned out to be so surprising that many were perplexed.
Imagine living under the stairs of a shopping center for about six months and no one notices your existence. No, this is not the plot of a science fiction novel, but an amazing reality faced by security guards at a Shanghai shopping center.
According to a video that has gone viral on Chinese social media, the young man, who has never been named, has created a comfortable home under a secluded staircase in the mall. He set up a sleeping tent, a small desk and even an office chair here.
Here he could charge his laptop and mobile phone from the outlets of the shopping center, and at the same time remain virtually unnoticed.
The young man apparently came to the shopping center more than six months ago. But only one of the guards discovered his secret hideout. And this is where the fun begins: instead of kicking out this unusual visitor, the guard decided to listen to his story.
The young man stated that he lived under the stairs only because he needed a quiet and private place to study for his college entrance exams. The guard liked his motivation and allowed him to stay, provided that the young man left after successfully passing the exam.
However, it seems that the first guard had no idea that the young man intended to stay that long. He reportedly lived at the mall until October 30, when another security guard finally discovered his surprisingly clean and organized home away from home. The video, which has gone viral online, shows the young man relaxing in his office chair, sitting next to a sleeping tent.
Despite his motivation and apparent honesty, the young man was arrested and CCTV footage confirmed that he had, in fact, been living at the shopping center for several months.
The story sparked a variety of reactions on social media. Some users considered it to be a dishonest “parasite” that could harm the companies operating in the shopping center, and maybe even pose a danger to visitors. Others praised his ability to fly under the radar and save money on rent.
