(ORDO NEWS) — The Valencian community registered 65 liters/m² and 1400 lightning strikes in 4 hours this Monday, May 2
In May, the Valencian Community experienced heavy rains, thunderstorms and even hail. Within four hours from 16:00 to 20:00 on Monday, May 2, the state meteorological agency AEMET issued an orange warning in the southern part of Valencia and in the north of Alicante.
The AEMET weather forecast was right and hail fell in just half an hour in municipalities such as La Fonte de la Figuera in the Costera region, where terrible conditions have raised fears for the almond harvest and vineyards.
The districts of Boccairent, Val d’Albaida and Sierra de Mariola were bombarded with hail, as were the municipalities of Alicante, Bagneres de Mariola, Muro and Alcoy. In the mountainous areas of these municipalities, the hail turned to ice, creating an image of a blanket of snow covering the ground.
