1980 Todmorden UFO incident
(ORDO NEWS) — More than 40 years ago, a British police officer encountered something unknown that remains a mystery to this day.
Around 5:00 am on November 28, 1980, Todmorden Constable Alan Godfrey led an investigation into reports of livestock on the estate.
As his work day drew to a close, he suddenly saw a large diamond-shaped object hovering over the road in front of him.
Estimating the unidentified ship to be approximately 6 meters high and 4 meters across, he attempted to call for help on the radio, only to find, to his horror, that his equipment was no longer functional.
Before he knew it, the object was gone and he was 30 meters down the road. At the same time, about 25 minutes passed, which he could not explain in any way.
About six months later, he was assigned to investigate the death of a missing man, Sigmund Adamski, whose body was found in a coal yard in Todmorden.
Shortly before this, the media linked the death of this man to Godfrey’s UFO encounter , and the rest, as they say, is history.
Godfrey quickly became a household name and has spoken and written about his experiences for decades.
During a recent interview, he recalled that the case attracted the attention of senior officers and a mysterious man whom he believed to be some kind of government agent.
“Under the Official Secrets Act, I was ordered not to divulge anything to the media… about Adamski or my own meeting,” he said.
The stress of all this ultimately ended his police career.
“It destroyed me. It completely changed me,” he said. “I ended up drinking a bottle of whiskey every single day.
I was almost an alcoholic. It drove me to despair.”
To this day, he blames much of the government for allegedly silencing him.
