US ready to help Turkey if “removes” Russian S-400
US, WASHINGTON (ORDO NEWS) — The US is ready to help Turkey against Syria if it “removes” the S-400 air defense systems purchased in Russia , Kay Bailey Hutchison, US Permanent Representative to NATO, said at a telephone briefing on Wednesday.
“We hope that Turkey will be able to repulse Syrian aggression with the support of Russia, as a result of which many Turkish soldiers were killed. We hope that we will be able to collect a package of assistance to Turkey. We hope that Turkey will not deploy the Russian air defense system in its country - it holds back the potential that we can provide them to counter Syrian aggression,” said Hutchison.
“We hope that the Turks … will remove the air defense system, which is located in the very center of Ankara,” she added.
On March 5, negotiations between the presidents of Russia and Turkey took place in connection with the aggravation of the situation in the Syrian province of Idlib. Following the meeting, a joint document was adopted. The parties reaffirmed their commitment to the “Astana format” and announced the introduction of a ceasefire. The parties agreed to jointly patrol the important M4 highway, which is now under the control of militants.
The situation in Syrian Idlib escalated after the terrorists of the Khayyat Tahrir al-Sham group launched a large-scale attack on the positions of the Syrian government forces on February 27. The Syrian army returned fire.
According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, the Turkish military, who should not have been there, was also shelled.
As a result, 36 Turkish soldiers died, more than 30 people were injured. Immediately after receiving information about the injured Turkish military, the Russian side took measures for a complete ceasefire by the Syrian forces, and safe evacuation of the dead and wounded to Turkey was ensured.
The Russian Defense Ministry emphasized that Russian aviation was not used in this area.
