Trump changed coronavirus victims forecast in US
US, WASHINGTON (ORDO NEWS) — US President Donald Trump said on May 3 that up to 100 thousand people could die from coronavirus in the United States, which is significantly more than his previous forecast.
“We will lose 75, 80 to 100 thousand people,” Trump told Fox News reporters, calling it a “terrible” situation.
At the same time, on April 17, Trump announced that the peak of the epidemic was over and predicted a mortality rate from it of 60–65 thousand people.
According to CNN, expert forecasts are even higher than Trump’s adjusted assumptions.
According to Deborah Brix, an employee of the coronavirus task force in the White House, between 100,000 and 240,000 Americans can die from the disease.
Earlier Sunday, Trump reported that intelligence had not reported to him about the dangers of coronavirus until January. At the same time, the American leader again blamed China for the pandemic, assuring that Beijing made a “terrible mistake and tried to hide it .”
According to the latest data from Johns Hopkins University, in the United States the number of people infected with coronavirus exceeded 1.1 million, more than 67 thousand people died.
