US, WASHINGTON (ORDO NEWS) — Turkish troops attacked militant positions on the M4 highway in Syria.
According to Rambler, the situation in Syria sharply worsened after Turkish soldiers died on the territory of the country and Turkey announced a military operation. On March 19, a Turkish convoy was ambushed on the M4 highway and was forced to accept the fight.
At the same time, the Moscow agreements stipulate that from March 15 only joint Russian-Turkish patrols should have moved along the highway, and it itself should have been cleared.
According to Izvestia newspaper sources, Turkey asked the Russian side for an extra time to unblock the highway, most of which is under the control of terrorist groups. And from the evening of April 26, the intensity of the fighting in Idlib increased sharply.
Turkish troops attacked militant positions near Nairab, and several UAV attacks were also recorded. There were reports of five killed and many wounded, including civilians, sources said.“
A clash between the Turkish military and the gendarmerie with the Islamists was inevitable. The extremists showed no desire to give in and voluntarily unblock the M4. And the time allotted to Ankara for ousting the militants from the highway is running out, ”military expert Vladislav Shurygin explained to the newspaper.
At the same time, the civilian population opposed the Turkish military. Experts interviewed by the newspaper explained this both by fear and by the fact that some local residents share the radical ideas of the militants and do not want any compromises with the government.
