UK and US security chiefs call China biggest threat

(ORDO NEWS) — This was the first ever joint performance by the heads of MI5 and the FBI.

The heads of the security services of Great Britain and the United States held a joint speech, where they spoke about the threat from China.

FBI Director Christopher Wray called China “the biggest long-term threat to economic and national security” and accused the country of meddling in politics, including recent elections.

The head of MI5, in turn, Ken McCallum, said that over the past three years, his service has more than doubled its work on combating Chinese activities and is going to double it again.

According to him, MI5 is currently conducting seven times more investigations related to the activities of the Chinese Communist Party than in 2018.

The first ever joint public appearance of the two directors took place at MI5 headquarters. Ray warned business executives and university representatives in attendance that the Chinese government is “aimed at stealing your technology” using a range of tools.

He also said that China uses cyber espionage for “fraud and theft on a massive scale” and its hacking program surpasses that of all other major countries combined.

The head of MI5 said intelligence on cyber threats had been shared with 37 countries and that an operation against the aerospace industry had been thwarted in May.
