(ORDO NEWS) — A unique collection of gold coins worth 250 thousand pounds found in the UK. The treasure was discovered in a mansion in Ellerby, whose owners decided to re-lay the floor.
According to news.artnet.com, there was a metal mug with money under the floorboards, the oldest of which date back to the Shakespearean era. There are rarities among later products.
A set of 260 coins was put up for auction. The most interesting examples are the guineas of 1720 and 1675.
On one of them, the name of King Charles I is misspelled, on the second, the reverse is minted instead of the obverse.
Meanwhile, such a marriage in ancient coins is valued above ordinary products: Charles’s guinea is estimated at at least 1.5 thousand pounds sterling.
