(ORDO NEWS) — The company is gearing up for the first orbital test flight of the Starship, a fully reusable vehicle consisting of a huge Super Heavy booster and a 50-metre-tall spacecraft known as the Starship.
Both elements will be powered by next-generation Raptor engines – 33 of them for Super Heavy and six for Starship.
Earlier this month, SpaceX conducted two static launches at a launch facility at Starbase in South Texas. Both of these tests involved only one of the Raptor engines.
On August 31, the company raised the bar by firing three Raptor engines on a Super Heavy prototype for about five seconds.
Static fire testing will most likely continue until Super Heavy has powered up all 33 engines, which will be the real deal.
