Eating walnuts in youth has been linked to a reduced risk of cardiovascular disease in adulthood

(ORDO NEWS) — American scientists have learned that eating walnuts at an early age carries positive health benefits in later years. It also reduces the risk of developing cardiovascular disease.

The walnut is the only nut that is considered an excellent source of the plant-based omega-3 alpha-linolenic acid.

Studies show that it may play an important role in the functioning of the heart, brain and is responsible for healthy aging. In addition, walnuts contain protein, fiber, magnesium and a variety of antioxidants.

A study conducted by scientists from the University of Minnesota (USA) can be called one of the longest-term works of its kind.

The researchers analyzed dietary and health information from 3,023 men and women aged 18 to 30. The participants’ diets were analyzed over a period of 20 years, and after 30 years, the scientists also measured participants’ physical and clinical health parameters.

The subjects were divided into those who regularly consumed walnuts (about 21 grams per day) and those who did not.

The researchers then tested the relationship between this factor and factors in the development of cardiovascular disease, including smoking, body weight, blood pressure, blood glucose levels and other indicators.

It turned out that participants who consumed walnuts had higher rates of physical activity after 30 years. And regular consumption of this product was correlated with a better risk profile for cardiovascular diseases, including: lower body mass index, lower blood pressure and blood triglycerides.
