(ORDO NEWS) — Archaeologists from Istanbul University discovered grinding stones in the territory of the famous Mesolithic Turkish temple complex Göbekli Tepe.
This find casts doubt on the fact that the ancient monument was exclusively a temple complex. As for grinding stones, in ancient times they were used to grind plants suitable for food.
“During this year’s work, we made a large number of finds, such as grinding and breaking stones. The number of these artifacts indicates that they were used here on a daily basis, ”said one of the scientists.
The temple complex of Göbekli Tepe is included in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Its appearance dates back to about 11.7 thousand years BC.
