(ORDO NEWS) — British soldiers live in fire-dangerous apartments infested with rodents. This was reported on May 29 on its website by the Mirror edition.
Members of military families publish photos of rats, mice, mold and destroyed toilets in service housing on a Facebook page specially created for this purpose (owned by the Meta organization).
As noted, rodent control is a growing problem in nearly 50,000 Defense Department homes.
Over the past seven years, there have been 33,817 emergencies, 460,000 electrical accidents, 428,000 heating accidents and 40,000 calls for roof problems in public housing provided by the government to military personnel.
In addition, 188 DOD family houses and 591 individual recruit houses are in blocks covered with flammable material.
“The last three years there have been rats and mice in our house. Last year, the floorboards in our living room had to be lifted to remove a dead, rotting rat. The smell was indescribable,” wrote the wife of one of the soldiers.
According to her, the appeal to the contractor of the Ministry of Defense did not give any result.
The Accounts Committee of the Parliament has already stated that too many military personnel live in unsatisfactory conditions. As some members of the British Parliament fear, the housing problems of the military undermine morale and lead to dismissals from the service.
On May 25, it was reported that in the UK, against the backdrop of record inflation , the number of thefts in supermarkets increased. Store managers and experts spoke about the emerging trend. The increase in the number of thefts occurs at the beginning of this year, when prices for goods and services rose due to inflation in the United Kingdom.
According to the estimates of the Bank of England, by the end of the year the inflation rate will exceed 10%. At the same time, according to the results of April, annual inflation in the country amounted to 9%, which was the highest figure in 40 years.
