(ORDO NEWS) — This feline was discovered during the 2019 National Geographic and Rolex Perpetual Planet Everest Expedition.
Scientists managed to collect the feces of the manul cat at an altitude of 5110 and 5190 meters above sea level, the height of the mountain itself is 8849 meters.
Analyzes have shown that this is the excrement of two different cats, whose habitat intersects with red foxes. From the analysis of feces, it was possible to find out that manuls feed on pikas and mountain weasels.
Scientists expect in the future to count the number of cats on the mountain using camera traps.
