Zombie outbreak: it is enough to evolve one parasite

(ORDO NEWS) — If the evolution of a literal single parasite or virus occurs, then a very real outbreak of zombies may occur.

Many people are afraid of this, especially those who have watched many zombie films. In turn, scientists believe that this may well happen. Of course, it’s hard to believe in this, but parasites can really affect the human brain so that it begins to develop differently. As a result, this can lead to the fact that the dead will rise and begin to destroy the living.

Today, such a parasite is known as toxoplasma gondii. It is capable of infecting the brain of rodents. The parasite then affects the behavior of the infected rodent. They cease to be afraid of cats, because this is where the parasite plans to get.

This parasite can cause a sick rodent to approach the cat to eat it. Experts worry because rats and humans have so much in common. This is why rodents are typically used to conduct clinical trials of drugs that are intended for humans. Experts say that already today in about half of humanity this parasite is present in the brain, but in a dormant state.

At the same time, in some people, the parasite began to control the brain. This began to manifest itself with suicidal tendencies, as well as the development of schizophrenia. Scientists from the University of California conducted a study that found that the parasite is much stronger than previously thought.

Wendy Ingham, who worked with her team on this study, tested the parasite on mice. As a result, the infected rodents are really no longer afraid of predators.
