YouTube is developing its own counterpart to TikTok

US, WASHINGTON (ORDO NEWS) — Google is not going to put up with the fact that the search engine owned YouTube platform is perceived as modern, fashionable and advanced by an ever-smaller share of users.

They will try to change this by integrating the Shorts short video service on YouTube, using many of TikTok’s ideas.

YouTube’s plans to compete with a popular among teenagers and a twenty-year-old application are reported with reference to The Information sources. The service will allow you to publish short videos, which will then be displayed in the YouTube mobile application in a separate feed, and overlay licensed music from the YouTube Music catalog on them.

YouTube’s attempt to keep up with TikTok is understandable – over the past two years, the audience of the Chinese-developed ByteDance service has grown by more than 125% ( The Verge cites such data from the App Annie January report ).

TikTok has not only gathered hundreds of millions of users (over the past 12 months, the application has been downloaded from the App Store and Google Play 842 million times), but has also become a cultural phenomenon.

YouTube, which has previously implemented an analogue, builds from Instagram, is not alone in trying to copy the good ideas of its Chinese colleagues.

Facebook has been testing the application with short videos to Lasso music for several months in the Brazilian market. But the trump card of Google-owned video hosting can be its agreement on licensing music with leading major and many independent music labels.
