(ORDO NEWS) — In front of you is a bright young star (marked in the second image) IRAS 05506+2414, shrouded in gas and dust clouds, which is located at a distance of about 9,000 light years from Earth in the constellation of Taurus.
It is believed that the young star was born on the “ashes” left after the destruction of an entire star system. If this is true, we have only the second known example of this kind.
Usually, the matter surrounding a young star turns into double streams of gas and dust, which are accelerated through space by powerful stellar winds.
However, in the case of IRAS 05506+2414, we observe fan-shaped “splashes” of matter (a chaotic structure) that move away from the star at speeds up to 350 kilometers per second.
The behavior of the observed star is atypical, and astronomers are now trying to determine its brightness, how much energy it radiates and, therefore, to estimate the mass of the object – key information that will help understand the nature of unusual radiation from this bright young star.
