(ORDO NEWS) — Maria Gomes dos Reis, who lives in the northeast of Brazil, can be recognized as the oldest person in the world. This is reported by the Daily Mirror.
The doctors, who were called when she became ill, drew attention to the centenarian. They found that, according to her birth certificate, she was born on June 16, 1900 in the Brazilian village of Bela Vista, in the municipality of Bom Jesus da Lapa. If the documents are correct, her age is 121 years.
Dush Rei is bedridden and still lives in her native village. All her children have already passed away, so her granddaughter Celia is taking care of her.
The woman has 13 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren, and the family hopes she will live to see her first great-great-grandchild.
“We knew that she was in her old age, but to find out that she is the oldest person in the world? We are amazed,” admitted Celia.
According to her, the grandmother remained cheerful until she became bedridden a little more than eight years ago.
She took care of everyone, cooked food and washed clothes, and also raised her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The Guinness Book of Records has recognized French nun Lucille Randon as the oldest living person in the world, whose age is 118 years.
Randon received the title of the oldest person in the world after the death of the Japanese woman Kane Tanaka, to whom he belonged before. Tanaka passed away on April 25 at the age of 119 years and 107 days.
