(ORDO NEWS) — A resident of the United States, out of boredom due to the strict isolation regime introduced in connection with the COVID-19 pandemic, decided to run a marathon every day. As a result, she covered about four thousand kilometers in 95 days and got into the Guinness Book of Records, according to the UPI news agency.
Alyssa Clarke said that she lived in Italy in March 2020. Then the country’s authorities introduced a lockdown for the first time due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Soon, the American woman discovered that the summer marathons for which she was preparing had been canceled.
During the lockdown, Clarke decided to run a marathon every day (42 kilometers – approx. “Lenta.ru”). She expected that the project would last 15 days, but did not stop it after this period. The woman continued to find time for daily marathons even after returning to the United States.
On some days, the American woman used a treadmill, but ran on the street when she had the opportunity. After all, she ran 95 marathons in 95 days. The woman noted that she started the 96th run, but decided to stop halfway because of poor health. Later it turned out that the American fell ill with COVID-19.
“I have always said that I will stop running as soon as there is a risk that I will become an unnecessary burden on the medical system. Therefore, as soon as my health deteriorated, I stopped jogging, ”she explained.
Clarke soon received a message from Guinness. World Records ”, in which she was notified that she had broken the record for the most consecutive days of marathon runs.
“I am proud to have broken this record, but I hope that someone will soon start running and achieve an even better result,” said the American.
