Will Omicron help form herd immunity

(ORDO NEWS) — Scientists suggest that neither the highly infectious Omicron strain, nor any other variant, will help form herd immunity. There are several reasons why most of the population will not be able to obtain the necessary immunity to a dangerous virus.

  • The first thing you should pay attention to is that over time after infection or vaccination, the amount of antibodies will gradually decrease. Despite the fact that the vaccine can protect a person from a severe form of coronavirus, a decrease in the number of antibodies will indicate that reinfection is possible.
  • Not all countries have the same access to the right amount of vaccines. For example, in low-income countries, about 5% of the population has been vaccinated. At the same time, rich countries are trying to fight ardent opponents of vaccinations. Small children should not be vaccinated.
  • Because the virus continues to spread, it is still mutating. Each new variant learns to bypass the immune response in the human body in order to survive.

To date, there is a steady movement to ensure that the pandemic has passed into the endemic stage. In this case, the infection will continue to circulate, but at the same time, humanity will have sufficient protection so that the next outbreaks do not lead to such sad consequences.

Most experts suggest that in the future, coronavirus may become something like the flu and will only disturb people in the form of seasonal bursts, stop provoking epidemics.
