(ORDO NEWS) — A fire in the popular resort area of Loutraki, Corinthia Prefecture, came under control after it broke out in a forested area.
The fire brigade’s operations were successful and they were able to save homes in the area hit by a shaft of fire.
The Drassa settlement in Corinthia prefecture has been evacuated as the fire that started in Keris “is spiraling out of control,” Corinth Mayor Vasilis Nanopoulos told the Athens and Macedonian News Agency (ANA-MPA), adding that Sofiko’s summer camp was also evacuated.
Mayor Nanopoulos demanded that the government and regional authorities of the Peloponnese declare the municipality in a state of emergency, as 268 firefighters with 61 fire trucks and 15 ground teams fought the fire, and strong winds created many fires.
