(ORDO NEWS) — Despite the fact that running or any other type of physical activity is considered beneficial for the body, the effect of this is not always there. The author of the material, Dr. Michael Mosley, was convinced of this.
Many after the New Year holidays are recorded in the gym or taken to run. Indeed, scientific research proves that, at the very least, exercise has a beneficial effect on mental health.
Out of nearly 8,000 people, those who were more physically active than the rest had less depression, according to a study published in the journal JAMA Psychiatry.
Moreover, this concerned both those who had a genetic predisposition to this disease, and those who did not have such a predisposition.
They found that exercising 4 hours a week reduced the risk of depression by about 17 percent.
In this case, it happens that in the process of running, substances such as endocannabinoids are produced. These substances significantly affect sleep, appetite, memory, pain, mood.
A few years ago, the author himself took part in one of the studies. The experiment measured the level of endocannabinoids before and after running for 30 minutes.
It turned out that in everyone except the author, the amount of these substances in the body increased after jogging.
Dr. Michael Mosley noted that this fact could well be explained by his dislike and even disgust towards sports. That is, running is still not effective for everyone.
