(ORDO NEWS) — WHO experts talked about why more and more new strains of coronavirus continue to appear. The World Health Organization is confident that the reason for what is happening is nothing more than a too low level of vaccination.
Also, to some extent, people themselves are to blame for the emergence of new strains of the virus. The WHO has emphasized that it will not be possible to stop the pandemic until a sufficiently reliable herd immunity is developed.
It is worth paying attention to the fact that today humanity has already encountered such strains of coronavirus as Alpha, Beta, Delta, Gamma, Omicron. Experts believe that people have independently created very suitable conditions for the emergence of new variants of the virus.
Many may think that Omicron is quite safe, but in fact, everything is far from so rosy. Absolutely all strains of coronavirus can cause not only hospitalization, but also death. Despite the fact that at first glance, Omicron may not seem at all dangerous, for example, like Delta, but it should also be treated with great caution.
The WHO noted that Omicron in most cases is very easily tolerated, especially if a person has been vaccinated. But this does not mean at all that it can be attributed to the number of “light” viruses.
Today, hospitals are still very crowded. This becomes the reason that many patients, in the event of any injuries or the occurrence of various kinds of diseases, cannot receive timely medical assistance from specialists.
WHO again emphasized the need to distribute vaccines available to mankind as evenly as possible. In some countries, booster vaccinations are already being actively used. At the same time, in other states, people are not able to make even the first two, which will help get enough antibodies to fight the coronavirus.
It is worth noting that in the last week alone, more than 9.5 million new cases of coronavirus infection were recorded worldwide. This figure is the highest since the beginning of the pandemic. At the same time, the number of deaths has decreased significantly.
Today in the United States, it is the Omicron strain that is the main one. People who experience coronavirus-like symptoms try to determine which strain they have contracted. Many people might think that this is a common seasonal cold.
Judith O’Donnell of Penn Presbyterian Medical Center shared information about the differences that can be seen in the symptoms of unvaccinated and vaccinated people. The specialist added that those patients who have contracted Omicron have signs that are standard for coronavirus.
The most common occurrences are cough, fever, shortness of breath, and fatigue. After that, there is a loss of smell, taste. In some cases, nausea and vomiting, gastrointestinal disorders, and a runny nose may occur.
The infectious disease specialist notes that those patients who were vaccinated and even received an additional booster dose do not have such a high temperature after infection as unvaccinated people. In the scientific literature, you can find information that the vaccine can reduce symptoms.
In most cases, they resemble a common cold. The media, in turn, say that with Omicron, you can much more often face a runny nose and nasal congestion than with infection with other strains.
