WHO: Omicron could end pandemic in Europe

(ORDO NEWS) — Hans Kluge said that the Omicron strain would cause about 60% of Europeans to be infected.

Due to vaccination, as well as a sufficiently large number of recoveries, the formation of herd immunity will occur. At the same time, it is still too early to talk about the endemic nature of the disease.

Most likely, Europe began to move towards the end of the coronavirus pandemic against the backdrop of the spread of the Omicron strain.

In just a few weeks or a couple of months, the number of cases of infection will begin to noticeably decrease. This statement was made by WHO Director Hans Kluge. He suggests that the formation of herd immunity should occur fairly quickly.

It is worth noting that in other countries there is also a noticeable decline in cases of coronavirus infection. For example, in Africa, the number of infected people has sharply decreased, and deaths have almost completely stopped. This suggests that Omicron’s peak has already ended.

Kluge is sure that today it is still possible not to talk about the endemic nature of the disease. At the same time, the risk that completely new variants of Covid-19 may soon appear is not excluded.

The virus has repeatedly been able to surprise experts, so you need to be as careful as possible. When Kluge was asked about the fourth vaccine and whether it would be needed in the near future, he replied that after each dose of the vaccine, immunity only gets stronger.
