US, WASHINGTON (ORDO NEWS) — Over 95% of deaths from COVID-19 in the European Region are people over the age of 60 years, and older people with cardiovascular diseases, hypertension and diabetes are at particular risk, said the director of the European unit of the World Health Organization during an online briefing on Thursday ( WHO ) Hans Kluge.
“We know that over 95% of deaths occurred in people older than 60 years. More than 50% of these deaths occurred in people aged 80 years or older. We also know from reports that 8 out of 10 deaths occur in people who have there are one or two chronic diseases. This is especially true for cardiovascular disease, hypertension and diabetes,” he said.
According to him, all adults are at risk of severe COVID-19 disease. According to WHO estimates, currently 30,098 people have died from the virus in the European Region. At the same time, 90% of deaths occur in Italy , Spain and France.
