(ORDO NEWS) — An outbreak of cholera in Syria has been registered in ten provinces and is spreading across the country, the situation is alarming.
More than 426 cases of the disease have been confirmed, 33 people have died citing Philip Barbosa, head of the WHO cholera and epidemic diarrheal diseases team.
“As of September 28, the Syrian Ministry of Health has reported a cholera outbreak in 10 provinces, resulting in a total of 33 deaths and 426 confirmed cases.
The situation in the affected governorates is developing at an alarming pace and is spreading to new ones,” Barbosa said during a UN briefing in Geneva.
According to the Syrian Ministry of Health, most of the deaths are due to the fact that people sought medical help too late or suffered from chronic diseases.
