US, WASHINGTON (ORDO NEWS) — The developers of the WhatsApp messenger, owned by Facebook, are testing a more convenient way to exchange contacts between users using QR codes.
The WABetaInfo website drew attention to a new feature that appeared in the beta version of the application for Android and iOS (2.20.171) .
To automatically generate a personal QR code in which his name and phone number will be encrypted, the user must go to the settings section and click on the two-dimensional barcode icon. From there, you can read someone else’s QR code on the smartphone’s camera by opening the Scan Code tab.
Exchanging QR codes is recommended only in person. You should not forward them as a screenshot – the risk is too high that the phone number will be disclosed to third parties.
However, WhatsApp will allow you to recall the old QR code at any time and replace it with a new one.
Now sharing contacts in the messenger is not very convenient, and this can not be done inside the application. First you need to start the “dialer”, open the address book and add a new entry. Only after that it will be possible to return to WhatsApp and write a message.
