US, WASHINGTON (ORDO NEWS) — WhatsApp, a Facebook-based messenger, decided to limit the dissemination of information in order to avoid the avalanche-like sending of fakes. This was reported in the official blog of the service.
Now, popular content – such is a message, including with a photo or video sent more than five times – can only be sent in one chat at a time. Frequently sent messages from last year are marked with a double arrow. Their sending to several recipients and / or groups at once will be blocked.
The new measure will not limit the user’s ability to inform friends or relatives about something, but will slow down the duplication of false information. In addition, this will reduce the load on the network, and so overloaded due to the increase in video content consumption by people who are in self-isolation.
A WhatsApp administration publication also reported that previously imposed forwarding restrictions reduced global message forwarding by 25%.
The messenger, together with NGOs and government agencies, including the World Health Organization, seeks to ensure the timely provision of accurate information to the population about the COVID-19 epidemic. To learn more about this activity, as well as how to report facts about possible fabrications, false news and rumors to the fact-finding organization, users are invited to contact the WhatsApp Coronavirus Infection Information Center.
