What is the protection against Omicron in people who have already had COVID-19

(ORDO NEWS) — Scientists were able to establish that the natural immune response does not show such a high rate of effectiveness in the case of infection with Omicron, when compared with other strains of coronavirus.

Protection reaches 56%, and against Delta, the effectiveness is 92%. The results of the study were published in The New England Journal of Medicine. It should be noted that to date it has not yet received an independent expert assessment.

The experts were engaged in a study during which they tried to establish how much natural immunity can provide a person with protection against Omicron in the future. To do this, a thorough analysis of the national database, which has been collected since the start of the pandemic, was carried out.

If a person has previously had a coronavirus, then the risk of infection with Delta and Alpha will be minimal. At the same time, Omicron is able to bypass the body’s immune response, so the level of protection does not exceed 56%.

If a person gets sick with Omicron, then in the future immunity becomes strong enough and with subsequent infections, the risk of their occurrence in a severe form becomes almost 88% less.

In order to avoid coronavirus, it is mandatory to get vaccinated. This is considered to be the most effective method of protection today.

In turn, obtaining immunity of the natural type through infection can greatly harm human health or even cause death. That is why you should not postpone going to a specialist and avoid vaccines. This is the only chance to cope with a dangerous and insidious virus.
