(ORDO NEWS) — Scientists have found that dinosaurs were in their prime at the time of extinction.
Previously, it was believed that the lizards could already be in decline, and the fall of the asteroid only exacerbated the situation.
A recent study by the University of Edinburgh provides new evidence that dinosaurs were evolutionarily successful at the time of their extinction.
By studying fossils to reconstruct dinosaur food webs millennia before and after the asteroid impact, the researchers also learned how some mammals and birds survived the disaster.
Scientists have come to the conclusion that dinosaurs occupied a stable place in the ecological network at the time of their death. There is no indication that their food sources were declining.
