US, WASHINGTON (ORDO NEWS) — The United States has put forward a settlement plan in Venezuela, which provides for the creation of an interim government with representatives of the opposition and the current government, as well as the subsequent lifting of sanctions.
This was announced on Tuesday by US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo, speaking to reporters in the Department of State.
“Today we are presenting [on Tuesday] a new mechanism, the path to democracy, to resolve the crisis in Venezuela,” said the chief of American diplomacy. According to him, the United States is proposing the establishment of a “state council that will serve as the transitional government until the” presidential and parliamentary elections.
It will include both representatives of the Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro and members of the opposition.
If all the conditions proposed by the American side of the plan are met, “all remaining sanctions will be lifted,” Pompeo added.
He also said that the United States worked closely with Guaido, developing a new settlement plan in Venezuela.
