US predicts doubling of coronavirus victims
US, WASHINGTON (ORDO NEWS) — By June 1, the number of coronavirus victims in the United States will double – up to 3 thousand dead per day. It is reported by The New York Times with reference to the administration of President Donald Trump.
Forecasts are based on data from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention. In addition, it is noted that about 200 thousand new cases of infection will be detected daily in the USA – now 25 thousand infected per day are registered in the country.
Earlier, Trump gave a new forecast for the number of coronavirus victims in the United States. According to him, 100 thousand patients with coronavirus can die in the country, which is much more in comparison with his previous forecast. “We will lose 75–80 to 100 thousand people,” Trump said, calling it “a terrible situation.”
In mid-April, Trump said that the peak of the coronavirus epidemic in the United States was passed, and later predicted a mortality rate of 60–65 thousand people.
The total number of coronavirus infected in the world is close to 3.5 million people, of which about a third of those infected are in the United States. 67.7 thousand people died in the country, more than 180.2 thousand recovered.
