US partially resume WHO funding

US, WASHINGTON (ORDO NEWS) — The administration of US President Donald Trump is ready to partially resume funding for the World Health Organization ( WHO ), which was discontinued in April due to the “failure” of WHO in the fight against coronavirus infection. This was reported by Fox News.

According to the channel’s sources, the United States is ready to provide material assistance to the organization only in the same volume as China does. The corresponding statement is contained in a letter addressed to WHO, which will soon sign or has already signed Trump.

However, if Beijing considers it necessary to increase the amount of funding for the organization, Washington will also consider such an opportunity. One way or another, the US contribution to WHO will be greatly reduced.

The letter also notes that despite a number of shortcomings, WHO still has “significant potential”. Moreover, the organization should be reformed and its leadership protected from “political pressure”. The letter adds that it is also necessary to conduct an independent examination regarding the origin of COVID-19.

The White House suspended WHO sponsorship in mid-April. According to the American leader, such a measure will remain in effect until “errors in response and concealment of the spread of coronavirus” are investigated.

Later, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced the readiness of the United States to create its own agency to protect the health of people around the world. He noted that the president had made a clear order to prevent another WHO failure.
