US, WASHINGTON (ORDO NEWS) — According to FlightGlobal, the U.S. Navy will sign a contract with Northrop Grumman Corporation to launch production of the AGM-88G AARGM-ER, an improved version of the famous AGM-88 HARM anti-radar guided missile.
AGM-88G is very different from the basic version, so de facto we are talking about a new model of aviation weapons. Details of the agreement were not disclosed.
Recall that in March last year, Northrop Grumman received a $ 322 million contract from the Naval Air Systems Command for the development and conduct of AARGM-ER tests.
The carriers of the rocket will be the fourth-generation fighter F / A-18E / F, the electronic warfare aircraft EA-18G and the new F-35 “invisible” fighter. According to data from open sources, the range of the rocket can exceed 100 kilometers.
Experts see AARGM-ER as an effective means to destroy modern anti-aircraft missile systems, including the S-300 and S-400. Recall that in 2018, the U.S. Navy acquired a batch of missiles AGM-88E.
