US military received drones that can recognize people’s faces from a bird’s eye view
(ORDO NEWS) — The American company RealNetworks completed a contract commissioned by the US Air Force, which included the development of software with human face recognition for unmanned aerial vehicles.
According to the terms of reference of the contract, RealNetworks had to adapt its SAFR facial recognition platform for military drones.
To do this, the software had to be integrated with the hardware and software “stuffing” of the drone, connected to the on-board computer, communication and remote control systems.
Thus, thanks to the new platform, the aircraft will be able to distinguish between “us” and “them”, as well as find specific people.
Automated weapons are gaining more and more attention as they become a common component of military equipment. The new technology could also be used to kill specific people.
