US, WASHINGTON (ORDO NEWS) — Russia has reason to fear a NATO invasion, says American publicist Peter Suchiu. In the article “History tells us why Russia is afraid of invading NATO” on June 9 in The National Interest magazine, he writes that over the past centuries the country has been attacked by Germany, Sweden, Poland, France and even the United States.
The expert recalls that in 1918 the US military ended up in Russia and fought against the Bolsheviks, although initially they had to interfere with the German offensive during the First World War.
Sichiu noted that now the majority of Americans can consider the threat of NATO for Russia far-fetched. However, Moscow has long recorded a high level of military activity of the alliance at its borders.
Earlier, Colonel General Sergei Rudskoy , the chief of the Main Operations Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces , said that in the past two months the number of flights of American strategic bombers near the borders of the Russian Federation has increased significantly.
For the first time, US long-range aviation flew over Ukraine. NATO activity in the Arctic is growing. For the first time since the collapse of the USSR in the Barents Sea, the exercises of the warships of the combined NATO Navy took place.
Therefore, Moscow is strengthening the army and navy, regularly conducting military exercises and developing new military equipment, including T-14 Armata tanks and supersonic underwater missiles. “It is not surprising that the Russian bear will sharpen its claws … Such military equipment can be seen not as their offensive potential, but rather as a deterrent to ensure that Russia does not face another invasion from the West,” said Suchu.
