US dissatisfied with Russia’s behavior in the Arctic

US, WASHINGTON (ORDO NEWS) — Russia is strengthening its military presence in the Arctic and thereby jeopardizing the NATO anti-submarine defense line in the North Atlantic. This statement was made by Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Michael Murphy.

According to him, the Russian Federation and China “are increasingly challenging the interests of the United States and its allies” in this region.

Murphy indicated that Moscow has been deploying S-400 systems on the Kola Peninsula since September, although this “goes beyond territorial defense.” In addition, Russia created a new command in the Arctic based on the Northern Fleet and restored the infrastructure of the Cold War, ports and airfields.

Such actions by the Russian side will prevent the United States and Canada from responding in the event of a crisis, as well as jeopardizing the Faroe-Icelandic border between Greenland, Iceland and Britain, Murphy said.
