US, WASHINGTON (ORDO NEWS) — By the beginning of summer, about 3,000 people will die daily from COVID-19 in America, according to the US Federal Agency for Emergency Management.
The number of deaths from coronavirus per day in the US by June will increase by 70 %, to 3,000 people from the current 1750, writes the New York Times, citing an internal report prepared by the administration of President Donald Trump.
According to the forecasts of the Federal Agency for Emergency Management, the number of new cases of coronavirus in the US by June will reach 200,000 people a day. Today, the daily increase in patients in the United States is about 25,000 people.
The University of Washington Institute of Medical Indicators and Assessment predicts that by early August, nearly 135,000 people will die from the coronavirus in the United States — an estimate that is more than double the Institute’s forecast of April 17.
To date, more than 68,000 people have already died in the United States. The institute points out that the easing of social distance measures expected in 31 states by May 11 will result in increased contact between people contributing to the transmission of coronavirus.
White House spokesman Judd Deere said that the data presented in the forecast have not yet passed an interagency audit, and the forecast itself is not based on the models or data that the working group on combating coronavirus deals with.
Trump has repeatedly said that the United States should begin to gradually return to normal, as tough measures to combat the coronavirus undermine the American economy.
Nevertheless, these forecasts confirm the main fear of experts in the field of public health: the resumption of the economy will return the country to where it was in mid-March, when the number of cases in some areas grew so fast that patients died on wheelchairs in hospital corridors, NYT said.
Two weeks ago, on April 16, Trump published a quarantine mitigation plan “Open America again.” It says that in the first stage, sports grounds and gyms will open, in the second – public institutions and restrictions on movement will be lifted, in the third, other restrictions for visiting public places will be lifted.
To date, the United States ranks first in the number of cases of coronavirus in the world. The country recorded 1,212,955 cases of infection.
