US allowed placement of nuclear missiles in Poland

US, WASHINGTON (ORDO NEWS) — Poland could deploy American nuclear weapons on its territory should the German government decide to reduce its arsenal. This was stated by the US ambassador to Poland, Georgette Mosbacher, on his Twitter page.

“If Germany wants to reduce nuclear weapons and weaken NATO , then perhaps Poland, which pays a fair share, understands the risks and is on NATO’s eastern flank, could place these weapons here,” the diplomat wrote.

Speaking about the “fair share” of Poland, the ambassador probably meant that the country fulfills the obligation to allocate 2 percent of GDP for military spending, while Germany does not follow these NATO rules, Voice of America notes.

At the same time, in monetary terms, the contribution of Berlin significantly exceeds the costs of the Polish side (50 billion against 13 billion dollars).

Earlier, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg in an article published by the German publication Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, wrote that the alliance will have a nuclear arsenal as long as such weapons exist. “A world in which Russia, China and other states will own nuclear weapons, but not NATO, will not be safe,” Stoltenberg said.
