(ORDO NEWS) — Experts from the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) have said that the Earth‘s ozone layer could return to 1980 values, when there were no ozone holes, by 2066 in Antarctica, 2045 in the Arctic and 2040 in the rest of the world. This is stated in the report of the program of the world organization.
“If current policies remain in place, the ozone layer is expected to return to 1980 values (before the ozone hole appeared) by around 2066 in the Antarctic, 2045 in the Arctic and 2040 in the rest of the world,” the statement said.
It is noted that geoengineering projects aimed at limiting global warming will lead to serious depletion of the ozone layer due to the release of particles into the atmosphere.
