US, WASHINGTON (ORDO NEWS) — US President Donald Trump said that on Wednesday he will sign a decree on the application of the law on defense production, which provides for expanded control of the authorities over the civilian economy.
“We will enact the Law on Defense Production in case it is needed … It allows you to do a lot of good things if necessary,” Trump said at a press conference and added that he would sign the decree shortly after it.
The law was passed in 1950 in connection with the outbreak of the Korean War, in which the United States participated.
The document authorizes the president to require private companies to sign contracts or fulfill orders deemed necessary for national defense.
In addition, the president will be able to create mechanisms for the distribution of materials, services and facilities to facilitate national defense, as well as control the civilian economy so that critical resources needed for national defense are available.
