US, WASHINGTON (ORDO NEWS) — As coronavirus fatalities increase, US President Donald Trump has turned against health authorities and predicts the return of normal economic life to the country in a few weeks.
US stock markets have been strongly affected by the global consequences of the coronavirus pandemic, having suffered the sharpest declines since the 2008 financial crisis.
The contagious disease is spreading rapidly in the United States, progressively infecting nearly 50,000 people, with casualties rising to nearly 600.
Seeing thousands of lost jobs and poor finances, US President Donald Trump says the precautionary measures announced by his administration will not burden the country.
Economic normality can be restored at the end of the 15-day isolation period.
According to him, a damaged economy would cause more deaths than coronavirus, making the link between the economic crisis and suicides.
“America will return to business very soon, not for the three or four months that anyone suggests. This is a medical problem and we will not allow it to turn into a long-term financial problem,” Trump said.
Domestically, the balance of patients with Covid-19 is 15-fold over the course of a week, and several states, including New York, report a hospital crisis in the face of a surge in patients.
The White House leader says the cure for what he calls “the Chinese virus” has entered the testing phase.
“In New York we will launch trials with existing drugs such as hydroxychloroquine antimalarial and azithromycin antibiotics. 10,000 such units will be delivered to hospitals by tomorrow,” Trump announced.
Existing medicines are seen as the most immediate remedy for coronavirus in the absence of a vaccine.
Experts have warned that 20 to 60 percent of the population of 330 million could become infected if quarantine is not respected, and at worst hundreds of thousands of Americans would die.
