Trump hopes vaccine by the end of the year, “maybe before”
US, WASHINGTON (ORDO NEWS) — US President Donald Trump on Friday was optimistic about a coronavirus vaccine, saying he hoped to have one by the end of the year, “perhaps before.”
“We think we’re going to have very good results very quickly,” said Trump from the White House gardens.
“We hope to have (a vaccine) by the end of the year, perhaps before. We are making spectacular progress,” he added.
Referring to international cooperation on this subject, the republican billionaire welcomed “a very good state of mind”.
He promised that the government would deploy all the necessary resources to distribute the vaccine as soon as it is available, saying that the army would be mobilized for this exceptional operation.
“Millions of Americans will have quick access to it,” he said.
A little later during his press conference, the tenant of the White House however qualified his optimism.
“I don’t want people to think that everything depends on a vaccine, but a vaccine would be great,” he said.
“I want to be clear: vaccine or not, we are back,” he added, referring to the ongoing deconfinement across the country.
The European Medicines Agency (EMA) estimated on Thursday that a vaccine could be available in a year.
