(ORDO NEWS) — A rare tornado in these places swept through several villages on the Indonesian island of Sumatra on Wednesday, May 20, 2020. At least two people were killed, 6 were injured, and 245 damaged houses were confirmed on Thursday, May 21.
The storm hit the Tulang Bawang region of Lampung province. Raditya Caste, spokesman for the National Agency for Disaster Reduction, said the animals also died, including a cow.
Two people died, and six others received serious injuries, which have since been hospitalized. Jati added that power was cut off in most areas in the three affected villages. On Thursday, officials were still evacuating villagers to clean up the trash.
In the footage published by the agency, you can see people running and crying in panic when the wind began to tear the village, accompanied by flashes of lightning.
The Meteorological Department of Indonesia predicts rain and strong winds in Lampung, as well as in parts of Western Sumatra in the coming days.
