(ORDO NEWS) — On October 13, a petition appeared on the Web about the expediency of introducing quarantine measures, which was signed by 23 thousand doctors and 9 thousand health professionals. In their opinion, quarantine causes irreparable damage to all spheres of human activity.
The opinion of doctors was supported by 400 thousand citizens, who are also puzzled by the consequences of quarantine measures. Three epidemiologists initiated the collection of signatures: Martin Kulldorf from Harvard University, Sunetra Gupta from Oxford University and Jay Bhattacharya from Stanford University. The petition was called the Great Barrington Declaration because it was signed on the 4th in Great Barrington, Massachusetts.
Isolation is recognized to preserve the health of citizens, but in fact it only worsens it.
According to statistics, people are more likely to suffer from cardiovascular diseases, the number of screenings for cancer has decreased, and vaccination campaigns for children have partially curtailed. Quarantine also negatively affects mental health: people cannot be imprisoned for a long time. As a result, all of the above are factors leading to premature death.
The coronavirus does not pose much of a threat to young people, so the authorities are better off focusing on protecting the vulnerable population, which includes the elderly. The rest should be allowed to return to normal life, of course, subject to a number of rules. So, everyone should maintain simple hygiene measures, and in case of illness, stay at home.
Most healthcare professionals agree that isolation does more harm than good. People become irritable, acquire bad habits. True, not all experts agree with the text of the petition.
